An NQT - A Teacher

So what happened to this term? Only three weeks to go. It's all becoming slightly serial and that my first year of teaching has almost come to an end.
I mentioned last time that I had one observation to go. Well that all went to plan and it was probably the best that they had work. I organised an English lesson and they were all inspired. They were all wanting to take part and suggesting answers and ideas. We have worked really hard and I was really happy and impressed by the work produced. So, yes, it does mean that my final assessment has been sent off and I'm assuming its official. Yes, I am now a teacher. Do I get a certificate? I have no idea. Who would have thought I'd become a teacher? There were so many times I was ready to quit, however I persevered and despite the struggles I'm almost there. The end is in sight.
So with this first part ticked off, I've now onto the next objective on my list.
Monday I visited my old/new school. I learnt my class, year group and classroom. I'm very excited, although feel completely out of the loop, especially not being close to the school. I really want to start preparing my new classroom, however that's going to be ages yet, unfortunately. I am ok with this move though. I have a few ideas and with my own space, I hopefully will make an exciting classroom for my new class. I actually get excited thinking about it.
The rest of the week was spent rehearsing for the end of year production. I've been singing the songs nonstop and I've really been worrying that the show will not come together. Despite my reservations its nearly there, however with very few rehearsals to go again this worries me. It will be alright on the night. Fingers crossed.
When we've not been rehearsing we have completed some work. I have tried to fit so much in a short period of time. Bless my class, they've just had to roll with it. I've also felt out of sync and at times I've completely lost my flow. You can tell the end of the year is near.
Next week the children will find out who their new teacher will be and will then know that I'm leaving. Like I've said on numerous occasions, this has been difficult, however I've grown so much as a person. Lots of positive aspects have come out of this year and there's the clique that 'everything happens for a reason'. The next chapter is already in motion.
I am writing this blog from my parents house, as I have now moved back. Packing up the flat and squeezing everything into my car was an experience this morning. Although, it is good to be home and I can keep an eye on both my mum and dad, especially after what they have been through. So the next three weeks of commuting should be interesting. I don't mind the early morning, however the drive back I don't think will be so much fun. Then I'm off on a summer adventure. Another great test for myself.
So I'm not going to wish anything away, because time goes by so quickly. Lets make the end of term the best experience for my first class. I hope they've enjoyed the journey...so far.
Until next time...
Steve Maull.
