You know it's not a good thing when you wake up thinking about school. Back in a routine already and Easter seems like a distant memory, (apart from the reduced Easter eggs I conveniently bought yesterday).
A four day week that has flown by. Although, if I was writing this yesterday (Friday), I would have said this week really dragged on. I keep reminding my class that they only have 12 school weeks to go. It feels slightly surreal. My first year in teaching has gone by in a blurr. As I look forward I ponder what doors will open next and contemplate my decisions. The saying, "the grass is always greener on the otherside" comes to mind. However, the grass is just as green on the other side too. I know I'm quite impulsive and if I want something I tend to get it. Maybe I don't think things through enough. I know though when it's ok to turn back and retrace my steps. I just hope things go my way.
Tuesday saw the return of my amazing TA, although she is more than that to me. Definitely has become my rock and more than a colleague, but a friend. The class and I have missed her greatly and it will be strange at the end of the school year. However, I'll try not to think about that. We are far too busy.
The lovely fractions are still with us this week and I treated the class to a smarties lesson. They were all inspired, although more eager to eat them than use them for the maths. I was being observed in this lesson, so was very apprehensive as always. I am aware of how I can improve and it's always important to enhance your skills further.
I really do enjoy inspiring my class and we started a new topic this week. We were out in the playground and using our imaginations as we pretended there was a huge hole in the ground. We thought about what would be at the bottom of it. This brings out the performer in me and I told them to be careful as they didn't want to fall in. Then at the end of the discussion, told them all to jump into this pretend hole. You probably needed to be there to really appreciate this. I'm definitely not selling it.
If only I'd got an audition for Blue Peter (YouTube, 2013). I guess we'll never know.
I have a busy weekend ahead of me because I have lots to prepare for next week. So I best get to it!
